The New K 1200 GT. BMW Motorrad will be introducing a revised version of the existing K 1200 GT in the spring, which will combine touring comfort, sportbike handling and a high performance engine with a power output exceeding 150 hp. The K 1200 GT will include the same technology used on the K 1200 S and K 1200 R models introduced in the last year, including Duolever front suspension, Paralever shaft drive to the rear wheel, BMW's Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA). The most important features of the new K 1200 GT in a nutshell:
Engine The K 1200 GT's transverse inline four-cylinder engine provides an exuberant engine output of 152 hp (best in class!) and an impressive torque of 130 Nm (96 lb/ft), with comparatively low fuel consumption. Dry sump engine lubrication and the 55° installed position afford a very low center of gravity allowing playful handling with a large heel height. Cam follower control of the 16 valves and the resulting reduction in moving masses guarantee durability and enable high speeds. Transmission The six-speed transmission of the K-model line is characterized by light action. Also defined by precision and short pedal travel, it allows the rider to change gears quickly and accurately. The modular construction of the gearbox housing makes installation and removal for servicing purposes significantly easier. Front wheel location Wheel location and damping are operated independently for an outstanding response from the road. The new BMW Motorrad Duolever sets the benchmark in terms of comfort and tire grip. The low frame connection location and the forward-inclined engine also contribute to the vehicle’s extraordinarily low center of gravity and at the same time provide sufficient space for a large-volume air box. Rear wheel location The BMW Motorrad EVO Paralever combines the two functions of rear wheel location and power transmission. The significantly more compact and lighter EVO Paralever compensates load reversals yet more effectively, offers greater ground clearance and is impressive in its design. The suspension strut is connected via a progressive linkage to the rear wheel location, thereby providing significant advantages for the initial response and the progressive action of the suspension strut. Brake System The EVO brake disk has a diameter of 320 mm for transmitting a powerful decelerating force. It comes as standard for the efficient transmission of forces with the BMW Motorrad Integral ABS in the partly-integral version. This brake system is defined by maximal deceleration with sensitive yet minimal manual effort at the brake lever. Flexible steel brake hoses provide an exactly defined, consistently stable brake pressure and also look good. For the first time, the K 1200 GT offers a further feature that enhances both safety and comfort -- an integrated brake pad renewal display. Body The striking and aerodynamically optimized full fairing guarantees riding stability and a very low air drag value. The self-supporting front end consists of two plastic shells and the load-bearing headlamp unit. This sturdy, lightweight unit ensures that all cable and panel elements are easy to service. Windshild adjustment The windshield offers optimal wind and weather protection and the smallest possible visual size. Effectively channeled turbulence at the side air-flow break- away edges of the windshield deflects the wind pressure around the rider, thereby ensuring a superior, stress-free ride even at high speeds. The windshield can be electrically adjusted by up to approx. 100 mm (4 inches), and thus to almost all body dimensions. It is operated with ease via the left handlebar-mounted adjuster. Seat ergonomics The K 1200 GT's dual seat has been optimized in accordance with the total inner leg length concept. The dual seat is reduced to a minimum at the front so that the rider can easily put a foot down, but the knee angle is still comfortable. The standard dual seat can be adjusted to heights of 32.3 inches and 33 inches, a low 32.3/31.5 inches dual seat is available as an option. The "ergonomic triangle" consisting of footrests, dual seat and handlebar is designed for relaxed riding without fatigue in any situation. Handlebar adjustment The height of the entire handlebar including the instrument clusters can be adjusted easily and without difficulty. The handlebar can be adjusted in four stages by a total of 40 mm (1.6 inches) towards the rider's upper body without the need for spacers or other components. This enables rapid and uncomplicated alignment to the rider and riding style, as well as optimal ergonomics in every respect.
