Munich. On 27.07.07, the BMW R 1200 GS, together with the Adventure model celebrated an impressive record: In Berlin, the 100,000th R 1200 GS rolled off the conveyer belt. 84,373 units of these were allotted to the classic GS and 15,627 units were allotted to the Adventure model. No other BMW motorcycle has ever been built in so great a number within such a short space of time. The BMW R 1200 GS is by right the most successful BMW motorcycle ever.
The predecessor model, the R 1150 GS, had held first place in the registration statistics for years; the R 1200 GS managed to displace the record right from the start. It has continued to extend its lead to this day. In 2006, 31,138 units were delivered to customers worldwide.
From 1999 until 2003, 58,023 R1150 GSs were built. In addition to this, 17,828 Adventure models (until 2005) were produced. From 1994 to this day, a total of 219,468 GS models of the boxer engine generation with four valves per cylinder have been built. A figure we believe proves the popularity, supremacy and unique universality of the GS concept.
