Racing and racing success have been inseparably linked to BMW Motorcycles for the last 84 years. They have been a vital part of the brand from the very first day, bringing it world fame and making a crucial contribution to the outstanding reputation of the BMW series production motorcycles. In the season 2007, the team BMW Motorrad set out to test the completely new concept bike in competition. The BMW Motorrad Motorsport team's season long development of BMW's new 450cc sports enduro bike has drawn to a successful and rewarding close as team rider Simo Kirssi claimed victory at the final round of the '07 European Cross Country Championship, held in Schefflenz, Germany. Having experienced a season full of ups and downs while developing the new machine, at the XCC final both Simo Kirssi and BMW's new 450cc bike performed well -- Simo's victory giving him the overall runner-up position in '07 European Cross Country Championship. BMW Motorrad's long tradition in offroad racing is to take another step forward in the highly competitive and popular 450cc class. BMW Motorrad has developed this new motorcycle concept specifically for racing. Both the engine and the chassis feature innovative technical solutions that are now to be tested for competitiveness. The BMW team will be entering various well-known races during the 2007 season.

The BMW 450 Enduro was unveiled to the public for the first time at the Great African GS Challenge in South Africa, (Sepetmber 2007).
