The chances are that if you're reading this, you're either interested in motorcycles, or travel – or both. Some of the most evocative pictures ever captured have been taken by motorcycle travellers who have used their bikes to get them to some of the most awe-inspiring places on earth.

You never know what you might meet out on the road when you go adventure travelling.

Renowned photographers and explorers like Helge Pedersen and Michael Martin spent years travelling the world in search of places and experiences that few others have encountered. But there are many more of you out there who may just have been 'in the right place at the right time' and captured an incredible motorcycling photograph. Well, now is your chance to share it with the world...

BMW Motorrad is looking for the most inspiring BMW motorcycling pictures from around the world to feature in its 2010 calendar. If you enjoy travelling on your BMW bike and taking photographs, then this exclusive competition is a fantastic opportunity to show your best picture online and perhaps even have it printed in next year's calendar.

The theme for the competition is 'Travelling with BMW Motorrad' and it is open to all aspiring amateur and professional photographers. There is a fantastic prize on offer for the 13 winners (one for each month of the year, plus the calendar cover!) who will be invited to BMW Motorrad Days 2009 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in July, where they will enjoy a fantastic VIP package that includes two nights at a hotel, a fan merchandise package, free food and drink on site and special access to the VIP area in the main entertainment marquee in the evening (please note: the winners will have to travel to Garmisch at their own cost from wherever they are in the world, and once they are there, they will enjoy BMW Motorrad hospitality).

Entering the competition is easy, as pictures can either be directly uploaded online, or alternatively, they can be sent by mail. The main requirement, however, is that one or more BMW motorcycles are shown in the photograph. They don't have to be current models, as the judges are equally interested in historical pictures, but it is important that the photographs provide an impressive perspective on the theme of travelling by BMW bike.

Along with the photo submitted, you should include a short report, a route description and a rider profile, including picture. If there is a GPS file to go with it, then so much the better. You should also include a brief statement as to why you chose this BMW motorcycle – and then just send in your entry! Ideally you should send in digital images, but of course prints and transparencies (slides from 4.5 x 6 cm, or copies 24 x 30 cm) can also be submitted.

Are your motorcycling pictures good enough to enter the BMW Motorrad calendar competition?

The deadline for submitting all photos is 31 May, so if you're not yet in possession of that dream motorcycling picture, then there's still time to go out and compose it. Out of all pictures submitted by the deadline, 30 will be short-listed. These will then be shown online in advance and all visitors to the www.bmw-motorrad.com international website can enter a rating for their favorite photos, although this will not have any direct influence on the final decision of the judges.

From the short-listed pictures, a panel of judges will then select the best and most suitable pictures for the 2010 BMW Motorrad calendar.

To become part of this fantastic competition, please visit the www.bmw-motorrad.com international website, where full details of how to submit the pictures (including format, specifications, and terms and conditions of copyright) can be found. If you think you already possess the perfect picture, then please send it in now – otherwise, it's time to get out there and start 'snapping'.
