Second place for Wunderlich-HP2

Press Release 10/2005

Kempenich: The 53rd "Mittelrheinische-ADAC-Geländeausfahrt" - Rally in Kempenich, Germany, was this time under the sign of the Boxer. This was the first time that Team WRA (Wunderlich Racing Activity) with rider Dirk Thelen and a specially prepared BMW HP2 started in this event, which counts as part of the German “Enduro Pokal” (Enduro Cup) series.

The riders had to complete altogether 3 laps of 48 km each of the sometimes very difficult, wet track. Additionally they had to master 4 tricky special stages. The premier appearance of the Boxer in a classic Enduro type event, where endurance and agility are both important, was a complete success.

Despite a problem with the rear tyre clamp Dirk Thelen used his vast experience to nimbly steer the Wunderlich HP2 to a second place of the "A licence" class, the only faster bike on the day was a KTM 420.

Additionally, the event was used by the team to test a few accessories to ensure they can withstand tough racing conditions. Especially the extensive aluminium Engine Protection Plate, the exact fitting plastic Frame Protector and race number bracket as well as the indestructible Ilmberger carbon fibre Cylinder Head Protectors passed with distinction.

"The HP2 worked really well and even the many, sometimes tough sections did not cause damage to it. If the tyre clamp wouldn't have come loose maybe a better result would have been possible", said a beaming Dirk Thelen after the race. For Dirk and the Wunderlich HP2 this is surely not going to be the last event!

Kind regards
Erich Wunderlich
